Apple to Shut Down Services to Jailbroken Devices?

August 4th, 2010 xsn0w 4 comments

Apple warned today that it may deny service to Jailbroken devices, because it is a violation of the end user license agreement.

Razorianfly.com jokingly reported today that Apple may “brick” user devices. This is simply not the case. Apple is asking for a battle and a huge backlash from the growing (exponentially) jailbreak community. It also cannot shut the phone part of the device down because ATT would be forced to get involved and it would damage the customer relationship. Does this statement even say that the Apple specific iPhone services such as FaceTime and MobileMe may be shut down?

It is also important to note that unauthorized modification of the iOS is a violation of the Phone end-user license agreement and because of this, Apple may deny service for an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch that has installed any unauthorized software.

Jailbreak All iDevices With Jailbreakme.com

August 2nd, 2010 JAMonsterEnergy No comments

Many already know that @comex released a Mobile Safari based jailbreak. This new Jailbreak works for all devices on the current firmware. (3.2.1, 4.0, 4.0.1)

The jailbreak is just as simple as Blackra1n or Spirit, with only one action required by the user. You simply visit the site and “slide to jailbreak” then just sit back and let it work it’s magic. I Skyped iYoshiblog team member @xsn0w soon after the release and he  answered with a very happy tone,

“I am Jailbroken”

He jailbroke his iPhone 4 with this method immediately following the release, and was relieved he could finally get his tweaks and themes back in use. He confirms that this solution works extremely well on an iPhone 4. Read more for more information and full instructions on how to use this method to jailbreak iOS 4.

Free the Jailbreak.

Today the bail was set to free and Pwnage walked out of Apple-Jail.

Jailbreaking iPhone is Legal As of today, Jailbreakers need not worry about the legal ramifications of modifying their iOS device as long as they do not download or install copyrighted software. PCWorld states that the new ruling won’t help users, in fact it won’t change anything.

The U.S. Copyright Office slapped Apple in the face by declaring iPhone jailbreaking legal, but that won’t change anything for iPhone users – Via PCWorld

This means that Apple can’t sic the police on jailbreak users and probably wont shut these devices (or services) down without asking for lawsuits. It doesn’t mean that Apple can’t protect it’s own products from tampering, and that it won’t (or shouldn’t) detect Jailbroken devices, but it does mean that the developers and sites that offer the software that iDevice users need are safe.
